Buying cards

Since we’ve been open I’ve had several people ask to see our buylist, or simply ask if we buy individual cards for Magic: the Gathering, Pokemon, or Yu Gi Oh*. While the point-of-sale (POS) we use does allow the establishment of a buylist, the system hasn’t been reliable enough for me to consider using it. Instead, I prefer to look at what people have and make them an offer for the cards I’m interested in. I thought I’d explain how I determine my buying offer:

  1. What is the current market demand for the card?
    • Have people been asking for it?
    • Is it an older card that is hard to find?
    • Is it a special or promo version of a high demand card?
  2. What is the condition of the card?
    • Condition range includes Near Mint, Lightly Played, Moderately Played, Heavily Played, and Damaged. For more information on card condition, please refer to’s Condition Guide.
  3. What do I think I can sell the card for? This is the trickiest part of the equation.
    • Is it something that has been selling quickly?
    • Has the market price been steady or volatile?
    • Is it something that is high value, but may need to be sold on online markets such as or eBay?

Generally speaking, I will offer half of what I believe I can sell the card for in store. In some cases I may offer less if I think it’s something I will eventually have to sell online, or if it’s a card with a more volatile market price.

If you decide to bring in cards to sell and have any questions about how I came to the offered price, please ask and I will tell you. I believe in transparency.

*At this point in time, we are not buying Pokemon or Yu Gi Oh! cards.

Magic: the Gathering Standard Series Win-A-Box

In case you missed it, we leveled up with the Wizards Play Network (WPN) last week. This means we will able to run Friday Night Magic, prereleases, and request special products like Modern Masters 2017! A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped us achieve Core status so quickly, despite all the snow and ice.

To show our appreciation, we’re going to have a 9-week Standard Series* of events for which we will track Planeswalker point totals for all participants. Beginning February 15th, and running through April 16th, we will host our Magic: the Gathering Standard Series on Wednesdays and Sundays with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place of the series**:

  • 1st Place Prize will be a booster box of Amonkhet, to be awarded on April 28th
  • 2nd Place Prize will be an Amonkhet bundle, to be awarded on April 28th
  • 3rd Place Prize will be entry into an Amonkhet pre-release event

Over this 9 week period, a total of 17 Standard events will make up the Standard Series.

Points will be calculated based on total for the series – 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. We’ll post standings in the store each week.

Entry fee for each individual event will be $6.00. Normal prize support of 1.5 Standard packs per player will be awarded at each of the 17 events.

If we are able to get at least 15 of these events to fire, there will be some additional promo land cards to hand out to some of the participants at the end of the series. The number of promo land cards will depend upon our WPN status at the end of the series.

*A Standard legal deck is required to participate:

**In the event of a tie for any of the top 3 places, there will be a playoff
