It’s been a few weeks since our last update so I wanted to let everyone know that our plans are moving forward as expected. We hope to be moved into our new space by the end of February. This, of course, assumes there are not delays in the build out of the new space. Our most recent update from the contractor is they are working on demolition (lots of walls to take down!) and are waiting for permits to do the rest of the work. Fingers crossed for no delays in that process.
Concerning the move, we have heard through the grapevine that there are many who don’t want to see us move from our currently location, or don’t understand why we are moving. I have discussed our reasons with many customers who come into Rune & Board on a regular basis, but I realize that leaves a lot of people out of the loop. So, I would like to outline our reasons for moving:
- Room for growth – Over the last couple of years we have been running out of space for both events and new proudct offerings. Our new space is over 2000 s/f larger than our current one. This means we can expand our product offerings (new lines, new categories, expansion of existing), and have more open play space for multiple events.Plus, we’ll even have private rooms for rent for your gaming group to take advantage of.
- Dedicated parking lot – unlike our current location which is reliant upon limited street parking and evening/weekend use of the Civic Center lot, our new space has a dedicated parking lot that is shared with other businesses in the complex. I have stopped by there during busy afternoons and there are plenty of spots open.
- Newer and well-maintained building – if you’ve ever had an extended conversation with me about our current space, you’ve no doubt heard the many horror stories about this old building. So many water leaks, sewer backups, etc. The new space is in a building that feels almost new by comparison.
- Location – while we had hoped to remain in Hillsboro, as well as closer to downtown, the available options did not fit what we were looking for. Many options were significantly more expensive for less space, or were in some stage of disrepair and in need of a long list of improvements that weren’t likely to get done. When I first toured the new space over the summer, it just felt right. I immediately began imagining the layout and where everything would fit in. We think the new location will be fantastic for almost everyone. Unfortunately, there are some who will find it more difficult to get to. However, there is the 48 bus line that passes by on Cornell, and it’s about 5 minutes off of Hwy 26 which we think will make it more convenient for most.
All in all, we are looking forward to a fresh start in a newer building and hope you all will continue to viist us for all your tabletop gaming needs.
