Christmas in September?

TL;DR: Start your holiday shopping as soon as you can

Throughout the pandemic we have experienced shortages of products in every category we sell, as well as buyouts of the most popular items (Pokemon, Magic, etc). And we are beginning to see shortages once again that could stretch well into next year. Because of this, we are doing as much as we can to maintain good stock on as many items as we can for the holidays. As I (Nick) type this, we have several open orders with our distributors. Some of these orders will ship this week, but others may not ship until October or November.

We love being your friendly local game store, and we want to be able to offer as much of what you’re looking for as we can. For this reason, we encourage you to begin your holiday shopping as soon as you can so that you can get those much-wanted gifts for everyone on your list. And if there is a particular item you’re looking for that we don’t have on hand, let us check its availability for you. We’re always happy to special order for you.

Thank you for all the support you’ve given us through all of this.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

With COVID-19 and variant cases rising in Washington County, and today’s updates to CDC Guidelines, we will now be requiring facemasks while in the store. This includes anyone shopping or participating in events, as well as our staff.

Our reason for this change is so that we can continue to maintain and provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone, especially those who are immunicompromised, have underlying health conditions, or are unable to get the vaccine due to preexisting medical conditions.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

In Store Events – THEY’RE BACK!

First off, THANK YOU all for your patience as we get our play space back to functional again. After several maintenance issues over the past few months, followed by remodeling (there’s a brand new pass through that unifies the 2 play areas!) we’re ready to start Phase 1 of In Store Events.

To make sure we can make every event a safe one, we will be reopening our play space in phases:

  • Phase 1: Scheduled Events Only – Maximum of 24 players, unless otherwise noted
  • Phase 2: Table Reservations outside of Scheduled Events – Maximum of 4 players per table
  • Phase 3: Open Tables outside of Scheduled Events and Reserved Tables for walk-in players

There is no definitive time table for when we will be moving from Phase 1 to Phase 2 to Phase 3. During Phases 1 & 2, we will be evaluating what is working and make changes as we see fit in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Our first event will be this Friday, July 30th: Friday Night Magic – Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Sealed (6 packs). Additional events will be added to the schedule, so be sure to check back often.

All Scheduled Events will be first come, first served until further notice.

Summer Update: Face-masks, etc.

TL:DR – For the health and safety of our customers and staff, we have decided to continue requiring face-masks to be worn unless you are able to show proof of full vaccination.

With Governor Brown’s recent annoucement about face-masks, we began discussing how best to handle this within our store. Our decision is as follows:

After much consideration, we feel it is best to continue requiring the wearing of face-masks while in the store for shopping or events*. If, however, you are able and willing to show proof of full vaccination, we will allow you to enter and participate without a face-mask. Our reasoning for this is that many of our customers, as well as some of our staff members, are immunocompromised. In order for us to provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone, we feel it is necessary to take extra precautions.

For those who prefer to not to wear a face-mask, or are unable to get the vaccination, we continue to offer friendly curbside pickup and local delivery (within a 10 mile radius) through our online store or over the phone.

Please remember, we’re not out of the woods just yet, but by working together and looking out for each other, we’re getting closer.

*yes, you read that right, events will be returning soon!

March Update

Hey look, it’s still March! Or is it March again?

With vaccines rolling out and restrictions slowly lifting, we have been getting more questions about when we’re going to allow in-store play. We have chosen to be very cautious since most games do not allow for social distancing. Unlike a restaurant where you can typically maintain appropriate distance from other parties, it’s difficult to do so in most games, especially games like Magic the Gathering or Pokemon.

When we do begin allowing in-store play again, it will be restricted to private parties of up to 6 people. We are still a few weeks away from this, however, due to some ongoing maintenance on our building. Once we are ready, we will post on social media.

June 1st Update – In Store Play

Many of you have been asking about when we’ll start hosting events now that Phase 1 of reopening has begun. We know you’re excited to get back in for regular games and we are excited to have you come in for games. But, in an effort to maintain a safe, healthy environment, we will be taking it slow. Beginning Wednesday, June 3rd, we will be allowing private groups of 2-6 to reserve tables. To reserve a table, you can either call: 503-521-7610, or email: runeandboard@gmail.com. A $5 per player minimum purchase will be required.

To maintain a safe, healthy environment for everyone, the following rules must be obeyed:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before your game(s) begin. There are guides posted in each restroom that show proper hand washing techniques.
  2. Wash/sanitize your hands frequently while gaming. If you can’t remember how long it has been since you last did so, it’s time to do it again.
  3. No outside food or drink whatsoever. In the past we have made exceptions, but now the only exception is a resealable water bottle for personal use.
  4. Maintain 6 feet of social distancing between gaming groups at all times. We will be arranging tables to allow for this.
  5. Face masks must be worn. If you don’t have a face mask, we can provide you with a disposable one.
  6. Clean up after yourself. Dispose of any trash or bottles and cans during and after your gaming session. We will sanitize the tables and chairs between groups.
  7. If you are experiencing a fever, cough, or flu-like symptoms, DO NOT COME IN.

In addition to these rules, it is also imperative that each person be fully aware of their surroundings and how close they are to others. If you are within 6 feet of someone who is not part of your private group, you will need to move. Because of traffic flow, this will require coordination and cooperation between groups.

If all goes well, we will consider expanding our temporary hours to allow for more reservations.

Please remember, we’re in this together, and only together can we maintain a safe, healthy environment for everyone.

May Update – Online Specials, Delivery

Good news: We’re still here! But have we been up to? Besides adding items to our online store, we’ve also been rearranging things in the store and adding some new product lines (more on this in a few days).

Now that our online store is loaded up with product, we’ve been putting together some special deals. This week we have ALL RPG books at 20% off. And through the end of May ALL miniatures games are 10-25% off. These discounts should automatically apply during the purchase process.

Along with expanding our online inventory, we’ve also added a new shipping feature: Delivery to Your Door by me (Nick) within a 10 mile radius. Cost for this is $5, or free if you purchase $75 or more. Once we receive your order we’ll call to setup a delivery time. In most cases it will be same day.

As always, we hope that everyone out there is doing well in these tough times. We certainly look forward to seeing everyone again once it’s safe to gather. But until we can do so again, use this time to build a new army, create a RPG campaign, make a new Magic deck, or learn a new board game. We’re all in this together, even if we’re apart.

Special Events!

Fate of Konor 40k Events

The time is upon us — Galaxy in Flames: Fate of Konor officially starts July 27th! This is our first 40k Global Campaign, so we’re really excited to participate, particularly since the new 8th Edition came out this summer as well. Events on Wednesdays, starting August 2nd, and will have gradually increasing power levels, going up to 85 Power Level on Week 6.

Over next 6 weeks, we’re be planning in store events to support the themes and weekly campaigns. First up: Astramis! From GW’s website:

“Astaramis is a well-ordered and heavily defended hive world, the largest center of population in the Konor System and a potent symbol of Imperial dominance.

Having gathered significant momentum with their early victories on the outskirts of the Konor System, the armies of Chaos spread out across the region like poison seeping into the blood stream of the Imperium.”

Which planet will be next will be announced next week, probably August 2nd or 3rd.

Taking a tip from the internet, we’re running an escalation league over the next 6 weeks, with themes for each week. Currently, in store events are planned for Wednesdays since our normal tabletop day (Tuesday) doesn’t always have 40k or AoS on the schedule.

The themes are:

  • Week 1: Start Collecting!/Space Marines
  • Week 2: Elites
  • Week 3: Tanks
  • Week 4: Psykers
  • Week 5: Fast Attack/Flyers
  • Week 6: Scenery/Lords of War

If you follow the weekly theme (i.e. use the specified unit type in your battles) you will get double points for each new painted unit that you bring in, and double points for using them in your battles.

  • Week 1: up to 25
  • Week 2: up to 40
  • Week 3: up to 50
  • Week 4: up to 65
  • Week 5: up to 75
  • Week 6: up to 85

If you can’t come in, that doesn’t mean you can’t participate! Since this is a global event, if you pick up an army roster sheet and collector card, you can record victories you have elsewhere (at home, at a friend’s house, anywhere really), bring them into the store by Wednesday nights and we can enter your results for the week. You can also score points for your faction by building and painting new models.

More information and league rules can be found on our Warhammer 40k page.
