March Update: Face-Masks, Events, etc.

TL;DR: Face-masks are still required for entry. Consumption of food & drink must be done outside. Proof vaccination no longer required for events.

With the state mandate on face-masks lifting this week, we have discussed what is the best course of action for us in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone. At this time, we have decided to continue to require customers, event participants, and staff to continue wearing appropriate* face-masks for the time being. There are no exceptions for this, and we will continue with the 3-warning rules (if we have to ask you to wear your face-mask correctly 3 times, you will be asked to leave).

We will continue to accomodate those who cannot wear a face-mask by providing curbside pickup, local delivery, or shipping orders

Concerning consumption of food & drinks, we will continue to ask you to step outside while doing so.

Also, beginning today, we will no longer require proof of vaccination for event participation. We do, however, ask that everyone sanitize or thoroughly wash their hands between games or during breaks.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and make adjustments as we see fit in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone.

As for events, we are looking forward to reintroducing events, but will do so slowly to ensure we can do so with safety in mind. For now, this means only scheduled events; no open tables or table reservations.

Lastly, we would like to say THANK YOU to everyone for your support over the last 2 years. It has been humbling, to say the least. While the outlook continue to look brighter, we are still not out of the woods. By working together we can continue to provide a safe and healthy environment for all.

*a proper face-mask is one that goes over the mouth and under the chin; we will continue to provide appropriate face-masks for those without one.

January Update – Changes to In-store play

TL:DR – For the health and safety of our customers and staff, we have decided to continue requiring proper face-masks while in store shopping. In addition, if you are participating in events we are now requiring proof of full vaccination in addition to the mandatory face-masks. This applies to persons five years of age and older. This is going into full effect starting January 11th, 2022.

After discussing and factoring in the high volume of new positive cases and the multiple variants, we have decided that the safest course of action is to require appropriate* face-masks for anyone entering, and proof of full vaccination for anyone aged 5 and older to participate in events. Our reasoning for these additional precautions is to continue to provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone, including those who are immunocompromised and/or have other underlying health conditions

For those who prefer not to wear a proper face-mask, or are unable to get the vaccination, we will continue to offer friendly curbside pickup and local delivery (within a 10 mile radius) through our online store or over the phone. However, the rule requiring proof of vaccination to take place during events is unwavering for the safety of our community.

Please remember, we’re not out of the woods just yet, but by working together and looking out for each other, we’re getting closer.

*Appropriate face-masks must cover the nose and extend under the chin. The following will no longer be accepted: bandanas, gaiters, face-shields, or t-shirts pulled over the nose.

We’re turning 5!

Can you believe it’s been almost 5 years since we opened? If it weren’t for the calendar reminding me, I’m not sure I would believe it.

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know many of you.

As a huge THANK YOU, starting today we will have 12 days of deals, each of which will run through December 24th. Follow our Instagram and Facebook for details!

Christmas in September?

TL;DR: Start your holiday shopping as soon as you can

Throughout the pandemic we have experienced shortages of products in every category we sell, as well as buyouts of the most popular items (Pokemon, Magic, etc). And we are beginning to see shortages once again that could stretch well into next year. Because of this, we are doing as much as we can to maintain good stock on as many items as we can for the holidays. As I (Nick) type this, we have several open orders with our distributors. Some of these orders will ship this week, but others may not ship until October or November.

We love being your friendly local game store, and we want to be able to offer as much of what you’re looking for as we can. For this reason, we encourage you to begin your holiday shopping as soon as you can so that you can get those much-wanted gifts for everyone on your list. And if there is a particular item you’re looking for that we don’t have on hand, let us check its availability for you. We’re always happy to special order for you.

Thank you for all the support you’ve given us through all of this.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

With COVID-19 and variant cases rising in Washington County, and today’s updates to CDC Guidelines, we will now be requiring facemasks while in the store. This includes anyone shopping or participating in events, as well as our staff.

Our reason for this change is so that we can continue to maintain and provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone, especially those who are immunicompromised, have underlying health conditions, or are unable to get the vaccine due to preexisting medical conditions.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Summer Update: Face-masks, etc.

TL:DR – For the health and safety of our customers and staff, we have decided to continue requiring face-masks to be worn unless you are able to show proof of full vaccination.

With Governor Brown’s recent annoucement about face-masks, we began discussing how best to handle this within our store. Our decision is as follows:

After much consideration, we feel it is best to continue requiring the wearing of face-masks while in the store for shopping or events*. If, however, you are able and willing to show proof of full vaccination, we will allow you to enter and participate without a face-mask. Our reasoning for this is that many of our customers, as well as some of our staff members, are immunocompromised. In order for us to provide a safe and healthy environment for everyone, we feel it is necessary to take extra precautions.

For those who prefer to not to wear a face-mask, or are unable to get the vaccination, we continue to offer friendly curbside pickup and local delivery (within a 10 mile radius) through our online store or over the phone.

Please remember, we’re not out of the woods just yet, but by working together and looking out for each other, we’re getting closer.

*yes, you read that right, events will be returning soon!

Concering Digimon, Pokemon, and TCGs in general.

Over the past few months the trading card market has gone bonkers with unprecedented demand and very limited supply. Due to this, we often don’t know when or if we will be receiving a restock on popular products until our distributors are ready to ship them to us. In some cases it is literally a surprise when a distributor calls and says, “hey, we have _________ for you; do you want it?” Unfortunately, this means that we can’t take any orders on out of stock TCG products, nor will we add your name to a list because that list would be several pages long if we had one.

So, the best thing fo you to do is follow us on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. When we receive restocks, we will make a post on each of these.

March Update

Hey look, it’s still March! Or is it March again?

With vaccines rolling out and restrictions slowly lifting, we have been getting more questions about when we’re going to allow in-store play. We have chosen to be very cautious since most games do not allow for social distancing. Unlike a restaurant where you can typically maintain appropriate distance from other parties, it’s difficult to do so in most games, especially games like Magic the Gathering or Pokemon.

When we do begin allowing in-store play again, it will be restricted to private parties of up to 6 people. We are still a few weeks away from this, however, due to some ongoing maintenance on our building. Once we are ready, we will post on social media.

Concerning Preorders

We have been receiving an unusually high number of requests to preorder upcoming products for Pokemon TCG, Flesh and Blood TCG, and other high demand product lines. Because of this, I (Nick) felt it a good idea to outline how we deal with preorders of upcoming products, as well as why, in some cases, we don’t take preorders at all.

As I’m writing this, I realize it comes down to basically one thing: Allocation, which is the guaranteed quantity we will receive. Specifically, allocation of product from the publisher or distributor. In some cases, allocation for certain products is guaranteed by a publisher (i.e. Wizards of the Coast; Games Workshop), but more often than not it’s the distibutors who decide on allocations to each of their accounts (stores who buy from them).
Taking preorders for Magic: the Gathering is usually pretty easy since Wizards of the Coast guarantees most new products an allocation to WPN (Wizards Play Network) stores; the same is true of Games Workshop. In other words, we typically know how much of a new product we will be guaranteed. There are, of course, exceptions to this. Unfortunately, many other publishers don’t guarantee an allocation to us, so it’s up to our distributors to determine how much we will receive. This is the case for Pokemon TCG and Flesh and Blood TCG (plus most other games).

So, for determining when or if we will take preorders comes to down our allocation. Specifically, there are two reasons we don’t take preorders on upcoming products:

  1. Our distributors haven’t told us what our allocation will be
  2. Our allocation is so small that we feel it is best to not take preorders and instead put it out for sale on release day for our customers to come in and purchase

TL;DR – What this means is that we won’t take your money until we can guarantee that you will receive your product.
