June 1st Update – In Store Play

Many of you have been asking about when we’ll start hosting events now that Phase 1 of reopening has begun. We know you’re excited to get back in for regular games and we are excited to have you come in for games. But, in an effort to maintain a safe, healthy environment, we will be taking it slow. Beginning Wednesday, June 3rd, we will be allowing private groups of 2-6 to reserve tables. To reserve a table, you can either call: 503-521-7610, or email: runeandboard@gmail.com. A $5 per player minimum purchase will be required.

To maintain a safe, healthy environment for everyone, the following rules must be obeyed:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before your game(s) begin. There are guides posted in each restroom that show proper hand washing techniques.
  2. Wash/sanitize your hands frequently while gaming. If you can’t remember how long it has been since you last did so, it’s time to do it again.
  3. No outside food or drink whatsoever. In the past we have made exceptions, but now the only exception is a resealable water bottle for personal use.
  4. Maintain 6 feet of social distancing between gaming groups at all times. We will be arranging tables to allow for this.
  5. Face masks must be worn. If you don’t have a face mask, we can provide you with a disposable one.
  6. Clean up after yourself. Dispose of any trash or bottles and cans during and after your gaming session. We will sanitize the tables and chairs between groups.
  7. If you are experiencing a fever, cough, or flu-like symptoms, DO NOT COME IN.

In addition to these rules, it is also imperative that each person be fully aware of their surroundings and how close they are to others. If you are within 6 feet of someone who is not part of your private group, you will need to move. Because of traffic flow, this will require coordination and cooperation between groups.

If all goes well, we will consider expanding our temporary hours to allow for more reservations.

Please remember, we’re in this together, and only together can we maintain a safe, healthy environment for everyone.

May Update – Online Specials, Delivery

Good news: We’re still here! But have we been up to? Besides adding items to our online store, we’ve also been rearranging things in the store and adding some new product lines (more on this in a few days).

Now that our online store is loaded up with product, we’ve been putting together some special deals. This week we have ALL RPG books at 20% off. And through the end of May ALL miniatures games are 10-25% off. These discounts should automatically apply during the purchase process.

Along with expanding our online inventory, we’ve also added a new shipping feature: Delivery to Your Door by me (Nick) within a 10 mile radius. Cost for this is $5, or free if you purchase $75 or more. Once we receive your order we’ll call to setup a delivery time. In most cases it will be same day.

As always, we hope that everyone out there is doing well in these tough times. We certainly look forward to seeing everyone again once it’s safe to gather. But until we can do so again, use this time to build a new army, create a RPG campaign, make a new Magic deck, or learn a new board game. We’re all in this together, even if we’re apart.

September Events and News

Time for a round up of what’s going on at Rune & Board this September! We’re returning to Rose City Comic Con this year and will be near where we were last year, between Artist Alley and Rose City Jr. Find us in booth #1050 – we’re handing out discount cards good for purchases in store, so be sure to stop by.

A new D&D book is coming in September: Baldur’s Gate: Descent to Avernus will be available Sept 17, and we’re taking pre-orders for the alternate cover. This is a new campaign book that takes characters from level 1-13 as they travel through Avernus, the first level of Hell. It’s the first campaign book to take place in fan-favorite Baldur’s Gate so we’re hoping it provides more detail for the city itself for future adventures.

We’re gearing up for the next Magic: the Gathering pre-release later this month. Throne of Eldrane is inspired by fairy tales and Arthurian legends, with lots of us hoping for more fairies. We’ll be running pre-release events Sept 27, 28, and 29. Keep an eye on our calendar or Facebook page for details and times.

Aglovale_&_Prominence_Glare_(Full_Art)

Earlier this year we started selling Cardfight!! Vanguard, a Japanese card game based on an anime and manga series, and so have added open play on Sundays to our calendar, starting Sept 22. If you have played YuGiOh or Pokemon, you may like Cardfight!! Players start with a pre-constructed deck and can add new cards with additional booster packs so it’s easy to get started.

Pathfinder-Core-Rulebook

Our continuing events include Open Play for the A Song of Ice and Fire Miniatures Game on Friday nights, along with our regular FNM Standard and Draft events. If you play M:tG Pauper, we have casual tournaments Tuesdays, with $3 to join the event, and packs going to 1st and 2nd place. And with the release of Pathfinder Second Edition, we have occasional events posted on our Warhorn page. Hopefully with increased interest, we’ll have more events in the future.

Pokemon Lost Thunder, Final Fantasy Opus VII and More

The end of October will be a busy one at Rune & Board. October 20th we’ll be hosting a Pokémon Lost Thunder prerelease. Lost Thunder will be the largest Pokémon set yet, with over 200 cards, including new GX and Ultra Beasts. Many of the cards have never been printed in English, so it should be an exciting addition. Preregistration starts at 12:00, $25 entry fee with a guarantee of 3 prize packs per person plus additional prizes.

Our Final Fantasy Opus VII prerelease is October 27th, from 3pm to 6pm. Entry fee is $29. Opus VII will be adding cards from Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, Brave Exvius and Final Fantasy Legends. We’re taking pre-registration now.

That same weekend (October 26th – 28th) is Kumoricon, Portland’s own Anime convention. Rune & Board is sponsoring the D&D Open, so keep an eye out for us around the D&D tables.

Looking towards November, Ravnica Weekend is November 11th. Part of a crossover event for Guilds of Ravnica and the new Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica, we’ll be running a special adventure to go with the launch of the new book as well as 4-pack drafts. If you’re interested in running the adventure in store, please let us know. We’re taking pre-orders now for the Guildmaster’s Guide at $44.95.

September Events!

And in case you haven’t heard, there will be a Ravnica sourcebook for D&D 5e, too! That will be released in November so keep an eye out for more info in the coming months.

Regarding events, we added an additional Pokemon League day – every Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm. The pre-release for Lost Thunder will be in October so we’ll have more information then.
