TL;DR: In order to participate in the At-Home prerelease, you will need to either join our At-Home event through the Magic Companion app, or provide your Wizards account email address. If you do not want to join the At-Home event, you will have to wait until Friday, November 17th to purchase any leftover prerelease packs. Joining the event will provide you with two “prize” set boosters as usual.

Prerelease for Magic’s newest set, Lost Caverns of Ixalan, starts tomorrow and there are a couple changes happening with the At-Home Prerelease option.

About 3 years ago Wizards of the Coast first gave us the option of an At-Home prerelease. Since then we have always included 2 additional “prize boosters” with each prerelease pack. At the height of COVID this allowed everyone to enjoy prerelease in an environment where they felt safe. Also during COVID (since early 2020) the Wizards Play Network (WPN) had suspended metrics, which tracks how many players participate in prerelease. WotC/WPN is now starting to track metrics for prerelease participation after a nearly 4 year break from doing so; the last time was for Theros Beyond Death in early 2020.

You may be wondering, what do metrics do for us? The short answer is, the more participants we get for our prerelease events, the more prerelease kits we are allocated in the future. If our attendance drops, or we don’t fully report our attendence, we will be allocated fewer prerelease kits.

So, in order to maintain our current allocaiton of prerelease kits, and possibly increase that allocation, we are now requiring everyone who purchases an At-Home prerelease to join our At-Home event through the Magic Companion app or provide their Wizards account email address. In return for doing so, you will receive the 2 “prize” boosters. If you do not want to join the At-Home event, you will have to wait until Friday, November 17th to purchase any leftover prerelease packs. These will NOT come with “prize” boosters. You will, however be able to purchase any other Lost Caverns of Ixalan sealed product during prerelease week (boosters, boxes, bundles, etc.).

We thank you for your understanding and patience as we make this change to the At-Home prerelease.
